Each Myofascial Release Treatment session is performed directly on the skin without any oils or creams. This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and facilitate the release of tension.
Working on the Connective Tissue
Myofascial Release works on the connective tissue (fascia) that surrounds the muscles (Myo). It is a safe and very effective technique.
It involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the restrictions in the Myofascial connective tissue to eliminate pain, release tension and restore motion.
This allows the fascia to be stretched and to elongate allowing the muscles to move freely again.
Trauma, bad postural habits, repetitive stress injuries, inflammatory responses, and surgical procedures are the main cause of Myofascial restrictions and tension.
What is Fascia?
Fascia is one continuous structure that exists from head to toe without interruption and has an appearance similar to a spider’s web. The entire body is connected to every other part by the fascia, like the yarn in a sweater.
Fascia plays a vital role in the support and function of our bodies since it surrounds and attaches to all structures like muscles, bones, and organs. In the normal healthy state, the fascia is relaxed and can stretch and move without restriction.
Physical or emotional trauma, scarring, or inflammation, can cause the fascia to lose its pliability. It becomes tight, restricted, and a source of tension in the rest of the body.
Fascial restrictions can exert excessive pressure causing all kinds of symptoms producing pain, headaches or limitation of motion.
