Yoga originated in India several thousand years ago. Yoga can be simple and easy. The postures and exercises used are tailored to individual needs. They can be made simple for beginners with no knowledge of Yoga.

I teach a mindful Hatha Yoga, which includes breathing techniques, stretches, postures, and relaxation.

One of the advantages of yoga as a complementary therapy is its adaptability to patients with a wide variety of physical conditions.

The postures and breathing exercises can be tailored to the person’s needs. Yoga may help with many kinds of physical, emotional, or mental challenges.

Yoga is not a competitive sport, and a good practice is defined as whatever one’s body and mind are capable of giving on a specific day.

Jamila's Style of Yoga

I am a fully qualified yoga teacher. I trained in Germany at the Sivananda Yoga-Vidya Centre in 2000.

At the end of 2000, I moved to New Zealand and have been teaching yoga here ever since. 

Like every yoga teacher, I have developed my own style of teaching, which is a form of mindful Hatha yoga based on the Sivananda Yoga style of teaching.  My yoga classes focus on stretching, relaxation and mindfulness. 

I believe everyone can practise yoga, no matter their age or flexibility. My customised style of teaching supports you in working at your level.

Precautions When Practicing Yoga

We make sure that all yoga precautions are followed, including…

  • Asking anyone with a history of heart disease, severe back injuries, inner ear problems or other difficulties with balance, or recent surgery to consult a physician before beginning yoga
  • Pregnant women are shown how to modify their yoga practice
  • Advising that yoga should not be practiced on a full stomach
